Touchdown

Touchdown in Canada was a success, a few jet lag issues aside. Weather has been fantastic and we've already had some lovely meals on the patio and a great day at Stanley Park with Team Macbeth.
Some great news about Team Japan - their new addition has arrived safely. More details to follow.

Wendy Dobson: 28 July 1940 - 7 July 2010

The family is devastated by the sudden loss of Wendy Dobson – daughter, sister, wife, auntie, grandmother, friend, and, of course, Mum to Rick, Chris, Andrea and Glen. Wendy was so many things to so many people. Some of the highlights from RobDobHow:

- Wendy was so generous with all of her friends and family, always tucking away little treats and thoughtful gifts. When we look around our flat, so much of what surrounds us has come from John and Wendy, including most of Savvy’s wardrobe.
- She made the best tartiflette in the world.
- Wendy had a passion for adventure and loved to travel, leading on the planning and orienteering for all of her and John’s many trips in the UK and abroad.
- When Glen brought me back to his home at Christmas in 1994, John and Wendy could not have been more welcoming, despite the intrusion of a stranger. Six months later, when I returned to Canada after my exchange year was over, it was Wendy who said, "It's ok, you'll be back". Wendy knew that Glen and I were going to be married 6 years before we did...and I think she eventually forgave us for our impromptu wedding, depriving her of a chance for a new outfit.
- Wendy loved the sun and the beach. Every summer got colder in Wendy's eyes and each was never warm enough!
- Wendy was so committed to her family, bringing together the gang for parties, bbqs, easter egg hunts, Christmas dinners... She absolutely adored everyone – especially her grandchildren whom she doted over and spoiled openly and proudly.

We love you Mum-Wendy-Nonna, and we miss you so much already.

Bunny Number Three

Half way through my solo parenting stint with Dob away for 10 days in France at a mtn bike race before we join him and N&N&T for some camping. Savvy has already packed her bag but doesn't seem to buy the message that more sleep will get us to the airport faster. Late nights and 5 am starts. Torture.

Last night, after a million other stall tactics:

Sav: I will NOT go to bed until I have my third bunny.
Mom: I don't think you have a third bunny [she doesn't].
Sav: Yes I do, and I can only find Flat Bunny and Nanna Bunny, but where's my third bunny?
Mom: You don't have a third bunny Sav, time for bed.
Sav: I do.
Mom: What's he called then?
Sav: Bunny.
Mom: And what does he look like?
Sav, deadpan: He has tall floppy ears, whiskers, and two big front teeth.
Mom, depressed by her own stupidity: Ok, any features particular to this bunny?
Sav: A bushy tail.
Mom, defeated: Ok, well, I think Bunny Number Three is pretend and it's time for bed with or without him.
Sav: I look for him [search, search, rustle rustle] - Look, here he is, I found him!!! [Oops, turns out there is a bunny number 3].
Sav cuddles up all three bunnies and goes to sleep with a smile.
She doesn't say anything.
She doesn't have to.

MegaMoira and MegaSmith Tie the Knot

A big congratulations to Steven and Moira who held a lovely surprise wedding in Tillicoultry last week.

Was the day tainted by rumours about "doping" and "illegal tactics"? Yes - There are some who suspect that MegaSmith staged the romantic soiree on the eve of Stirling's third MegaDumyat Mountain Bike Race in order to give him the advantage on the course. The rumours were only compounded when, perhaps unsurprisingly, jacked on love (and, ok, a season of hard training), MegaSmith won the race with an astounding 40 second margin. MegaDob finished an honourable second, an amazing feat since he had a massive tumble and came home that night dripping in blood (and beer). McKenna came in third, only two seconds behind our DobboMeg. Too close for comfort. The other 21 racers were no where to be seen, despite a number of pros in the field.

Back to the wedding business. Savvy is a bit distraught that "her Steven" is officially taken but on reflection says, "It's ok, Moira is a good girl and likes to share".
