Eco Blog 7 - Cars

Ok ok - dob was in charge of number 7 for April. I have stolen it and he can have my number 8, May.

Number 7 is about cars. The usual stuff - next car will be an e-friendly car, second hand. Also, for today, no speeding. Only the speed limit or slower for team roberts:

- Speeding kills and loss of life isn't super green
- Speeding leads to tickets and points and £££ - investment which could be targeted toward sensible e-friendly activity instead
- Speeding wastes fuel: hard to get the consistent specifics here but seems widely accepted that the increase in fuel required to accelerate grows exponentially as you go faster and faster. Does it take 10% or 20% extra fuel to go 80 instead of 70 on the motorway? Not too sure, but either way, it's bad. Also, it seems a smooth ride is a petrol friendly one, without frequent change in speeds. Sorry Dobbo Shumacher.

Luckily, we're pretty good on the car front. We bike/walk to work and I take the train on my work journeys where possible. Still, when we do drive (never mind all of our flights...), the above applies.
