The Time Dobson Terrified us All in Halong Bay
We were at lunch on our cruise in Vietnam. Mac got stuck into the lighthearted topic of life after death--
Mac: So really guys, what happens after we die?
Dob: What do you think.
Mac: Well, I believe in heaven. That's where Nonna is, and that's where we'll all go to be together.
Dob: That's great, we can all choose what we think. But no one really knows. It won't matter soon anyway.
Mac: Why not?
Dob: Well, our brains will be plugged into computers, and we won't need our bodies or this world any more. We'll live through the computer.
Sav and Mac, jaws dropping: So there will be no people.
Dob: Nope. It will feel like there are people, and it will feel as we feel now, very real. It will be the new real, but we won't need physical space or bodies anymore.
Sav and Mac, look panicked. Me too, so I jump in:
Me: But Dob, you're hypothesizing. You're imagining what could happen thousands of years from now.
Dob: No, this is definite, and we are talking in a few hundred years. Or less.
Silence from our table. In fact, it's feeling pretty quite all round. I look around. There were about 10 groups of 4 on the deck eating our meal, and they are all listening in, and all pooping their pants in shock at what Dob has just described. Sav is literally scratching her head and Mac's lip is starting to quiver.
Dob: Too soon for this stuff?
Um. YES!

The Duets Continue. The Dancing is a Bonus.
Savvy "loves" her piano.
She practices "all the time".
She "can't wait" for lesson time.
Sigh.
Not bad for a kid who hates it so much, right? Thanks, Nana, for encouraging her along.

Mac and Pee
Mom, lying down with Mac to put him to bed: Mac, did you wet your bed last night and forget to tell us?
Mac: What's it to you?
Mom: I thought that would be obvious.
Mac: Well, it isn't.
Mom: OK. I don't really fancy lying with you in a bed of pee.
Mac: Hmmm.
Mom: We really need to know if you have had an accident so we can do laundry.
Mac: Hmmm.
Mom: So is there anything you want to share about last night?
Mac: No.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. For how long can we leave his bed in a stench of pee so thick I can taste it!?!

A belated but wonderful celebration
Some of my favourite faces here during a lovely gathering chez Vij's last night. Blake brought the Vanier Cup to the table, a Cup he and his football team were about to win in Quebec City, just as Team Roberts was heading to the airport for Vietnam. An outstanding victory for the Thunderbirds!
A bit of YVR shameless star snapping by yours truly. Here is Vij himself greeting us at his new digs. Great choice in new location, Vij, only a few minutes walk from our home.

January 2016
We are settling back in after our awesome adventure. Sav has done wonderfully at her new school and is back into her routine, although with a heavier heart than normal (ongoing renovations, homework sucks, loads of change...she seems more herself this week, thank goodness).
Here she is playing hide and go seek after piano lessons at the park. If it had been a smidge darker and she hadn't had on pink laces, maybe her camouflage idea would have been a go-er!?
Mac is loving his new room-- perfect space to enjoy his Christmas and Birthday toys.
He's also in the zone with his learning to read. Although who needs sitting up straight when sounding out 3 letter words?!
