John passed away peacefully last week. He had endured cancer these last few years. Although he was in remission, over the last month or so, John's body seemed to say, it was time to go.
Glen was able to visit his dad just before he passed. Over the course of two weeks, he had the chance to sit with John in his hospital room, chat with John while he was lucid and upbeat, and -on Glen's last day in the UK- share a painful goodbye. It was a sorrowful visit, but an important one, and Glen feels fortunate to have had that special time together.
We are far away, and are so very grateful to family and friends in the UK who are taking care of John's affairs and his service arrangements. Of special mention is Glen's sister, Andrea. Andrea has provided wonderful care for John over these past years, hundreds and hundreds of hours supporting her dad - grocery shopping, cleaning, appointments, hospital trips... Andrea offered much welcomed company for John with her regular visits. John would frequently mention that he could not have managed independent living without Andrea's constant support. Thank you, Andrea.
John and Wendy came from wonderful families, and went on to create together their own beautiful clan. John was a son, a father, a granddad, a great granddad, a traveler, a salesman, a trendy early tech adopter, a tinkerer, a business owner, a police officer, a member of the Coast Guard, and an actor.
Personally, I will be forever indebted to John (and to Wendy) for helping shape the amazing man that their son, Glen, has become. Glen is my platinum star vision for a partner and a father. The way he cares for our crew and always finds time to play with the kids...whatever lessons he took from his upbringing to become this man, were made of pure gold.
Rest in peace John. Be with Wendy now, and please tell her we love and miss her too.
