"Oh Savannah, our home and native land..."

Rob, Dob & Howard have ventured to Canada for a summer holiday, travelling through the Rockies to reach Shark and Ty at Sunpeaks, and then on to Kelowna to meet up with Team Nielsen as well.

We've had a great break so far, with lake swimming, biking, hiking, and loads of patio dinners. A few pics attached from a hike at Sunpeaks with Shark and Ty, a stop off at Lake Louise, and a swim in a lake at Canmore.

Now in Vancouver with Nana and Lynnie, we're looking forward to two weeks with Team Japan. More pictures later.

I Can Fly Higher Than An Eagle (must be sung)

Just been to collect my Christmas present from Ashley. An afternoon gliding. After spending countless hours as a teenager waiting to go gliding but couldn't due to bad weather, I was blessed with thermals and sunshine. 5 take offs and landings, beautiful scenery and wildlife. Unlike big polluting planes, gliders can get supper close to birds and other wildlife without scaring them off. In fact we were within a nats wingspan of a buzzard at one point as we searched for thermals and followed those who know them best. Sanks to Ash for a great xmas present in July. xxx

No pics of this one, camera is broke.

Three Witches and a Bow and Arrow

Lynn's visit has come and gone. Great nights out for Glen and Ashley - yoga, romantic dinners, and chocolate cake while Lynnie and Savvy bonded at the flat (thank you Lynnie!).

We made it to Birnam woods in Perthshire for a wonderful walk...great to be there with a Shakespearean expert who could bring to life ShakieBaby's Macbeth - witches' prophecies and all. Delicious ham and mustard sandwiches and hot chocolate followed...perfect for shaky quads and sore knees.

These pics are to celebrate the walk and Ashley's new found cleavage (thank you Savvy).

Ode to a Charlie Bear

We had a great visit with Nonna and Nanna Dobson a couple weeks back in Kendal. Savannah had yet to meet some of her cousins and so a BBQ at Benson Hall was a great chance to come together and play.

We also got to visit with John-Boy, Lucy, and Charlie and went for lovely walk. It would be remiss of Rob, Dob, and Howard not to sing the praises of the lovely Charlie Bear and to highlight his generosity on our blog. Cha-Cha has shared all of his clothes, toys, bedding and more with Savannah, keeping her in the best of kit and comfort. Thanks Charlie!

Savvy's Police Escort

Glen and Savannah were away to the Glasgow airport to pick up Lynn at 1pm on the 30th of June 2007.

Unfortunately Lynn's Doom flight was delayed by 2+ hours. Alas - no drive by pick up was possible and so Glen and Savvy went for an airport coffee to wait it out. As a result, they were caught in the scary terrorist related events whereby a truck drove into the terminal and went into flames. The airport went into immediate lock down. Unable to leave, Glen was stuck without an extra bottle for Savvy and no access to our car. He had to lurk about for help at the nearby car rental agencies and hotels. When no baby milk was to be found, a screaming Savvy was able to persuade the on site police to provide an escort back to our hotel. Good work by a resourceful dad and a shrieking baby, if you ask me.

Luckily, no innocent people were injured, although everyone was given a shock, a fright, and horrible delays. We feel lucky that Lynn arrived safely with her plane being the last to land before flights were re-directed. Tired and starving, I have to applaud Lynn's common sense - when she made it to the hotel room and tucked into a pasta salad, all she could focus on was the cost of eating an item from the hotel mini bar! Cuddles between Aunt Lynnie and Savvy followed and the proper visit began.

Magnum G.I.

The G.I. stand for Glen Ian. That's right, Glen Ian Dobson stepped up and provided me with a taste of my hero from the 80s. Wearing his Magnum lookalike shirt and a lovely tash, the two studs were basically interchangeable!

Zeus! Apollo!

The affair didn't take place in Nam, but instead in Glasgow during Scottish Swimming's national championships. We were also conveniently awaiting the arrival of Lynn from Vancouver who was being sent over to hang with Savvy by a generous judge.

Unfortunately, it appeared to be a last minute visit gone bad with Lynn being on Doom Airlines and being caught in the nasty terrorist affair at the Glasgow airport. All ended well though, with Lynn having to sit on the tarmac for a zillion hours and her luggage and our car being impounded into the days that followed. Safe in the bridge, we're enjoying a good visit...the sun has even made it out for the odd walk and bike ride.
